Youngsters Think Business At Stretford Mall

On Saturday 19th March, Stretford Mall played host to budding entrepreneurs, from local primary schools, with an enterprise trading day.

The trading day, which is run by striving enterprise organisation, GetSet for Business, gave youngsters the opportunity to sell their products to the general public and Stretford Mall retailers.

GetSet for Business, who has recently been awarded a grant by the Stretford Community Panel, have worked closely with St Matthew’s Primary School and Moss Park Junior School to create 20 social enterprises with business plans to sell everything from second hand toys to up-cycled jars.

Founder of GetSet for Business, Kate Beever said this project is a great tool to get youngsters thinking. “The recent grant awarded to us means that we’re able to offer enterprise projects for free in the Stretford area and have been able to involve almost 100 primary school children.” She said.

The trading day at Stretford Mall was a key part of the ‘Dragon’s Den’ style competition, giving the budding entrepreneurs the chance to showcase their business plans before the final business plan presentation in June.

Kate added: “The groups trading at Stretford Mall have received support and funding from GetSet for Business to start their mini enterprises, which were a big hit with the people of Stretford.”

The primary school students have worked with GetSet for Business to learn all about business in order to research their target market, decide on pricing and create a solid business plan.

Stretford Mall Centre Manager, Gareth Wilkins said: “We’re thrilled to be able to welcome GetSet For Business and their hardworking groups to Stretford Mall and we can’t wait to see lots of inspiring business ideas from the young entrepreneurs.”

Later this year, the project winner will be chosen by a panel of community judges including, Premier Accounts and Consultancy, based in Stretford and will receive long term business support from GetSet for Business.
